September 2007 – Present  York Fire and Casualty Insurance Company

As a Senior Corporate Underwriting Specialist I am responsible for the development and implementation of company underwriting policies, philosophies and strategies as they pertain to the company’s commercial underwriting goals.

November 2003 – September 2007 Ayr Farmers Mutual Insurance Company

As the companies commercial underwriter I was responsible for the development and implementation of company underwriting policies, philosophies and strategies as they pertain to the company’s commercial underwriting.

June 1999 – May 2003   Sovereign General Insurance Company

As the branches Program and Special Risk Manager I was responsible for the development and implementation of company underwriting policies, philosophies and strategies as they pertained to program and special risk business. I oversaw the Branch Program / Special Risk Department.

Major Accomplishments:

Instigated a non-profit / charitable risk program resulting in over four thousand new accounts, with over eight million dollars written premium.

September 1998 - May 1999  Lombard Canada Limited

As Head Office Commercial Lines Programme Initiative Manager I was responsible for developing, and managing new specialty program business nationally.

Major Accomplishments:

Developed a policy for the agricultural community, targeting dairy farms. Instigated a program for Flowers Canada, insuring florists across Canada.

May 1998 - September 1998  General Accident Group (Canada) Ltd.

As Senior Underwriter, managed a number of national programs.

March 1985 - November 1997  Lumbermens Mutual Casualty Co. (Kemper)

Assumed underwriting and management responsibility for developing Food Processing business. Working independently developed $2,400,000 premium. Recruited and trained underwriters, increasing the company's capabilities for production in all classes of business. Developed Specialty Programs for target classes, including standards, wording, rating, training modules, line setting procedures, applications, claims handling, marketing and payments plans. Managed the Branch Commercial Package business.

Major Accomplishments:

Developed written premium. Started at $800,000, increased to $8,200,000 by successfully negotiating and implementing plans with the senior management of brokers across Canada and some states. Instigated a Green House program resulting in 250 accounts, with $3,000,000 annual premium. Instigated an Evangelistic Church and Charity program resulting in 1500 accounts, with $1,500,000 annual premium. Maintained a five-year loss ratio of less than 40%.

Surveyed risks, following NFPA standards and Building Codes.

Audited surveys completed by Field Reps, and rated specialty coverages.

Participated on committee that developed and implemented a new rating schedule for the industry.
